Privacy policy
Last updated July 8, 2026
Pages & Lattes is a place to read books with people you like. We collect the minimum we need to make that work, and we don't sell any of it. Here's the whole picture, in plain words.
What we collect
- Your account. When you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address, and a Google account identifier. That's how you log in — we never see your Google password.
- What you create. Clubs, discussion posts, reviews, reading progress, your library, votes, RSVPs, and reports you file. This is the product — it exists so your clubs work.
- Reading check-ins. When you update progress we record the date (just the date) to power reading streaks.
- A session cookie. One essential cookie keeps you signed in. We use no advertising or tracking cookies. Your day/night theme and widget layout are stored in your own browser, not on our servers.
What we absolutely don't do
- We don't sell or rent your data to anyone.
- We don't run third-party ad networks or their trackers.
- We don't read your private clubs for any purpose beyond operating the service and responding to reports.
Who can see what
- Private clubs (the default) are visible only to their members.
- Public clubs show a preview page (name, description, current book, member count) to anyone — but never the discussion.
- Book reviews and your public shelf (/readers page) are public and show your first name and avatar — never your email.
- The spoiler shield is enforced on our servers: content beyond a reader's marked progress is never even sent to their browser.
Services we rely on
- Cloudflare hosts the site and provides anonymous, cookie-free analytics (aggregate page counts — no personal profiles).
- Google handles sign-in under its own privacy policy.
- Open Library and The New York Times supply book data; your searches on our books pages pass through our server to them without your identity attached. GIPHY powers GIF search the same way.
- Amazon: "Buy on Amazon" links take you to Amazon, where their cookies and policies apply (see our disclosure).
Today we send no emails at all. When service emails arrive (meeting reminders, sign-in links), they'll be things you asked for, with a way to turn them off — never marketing lists, never affiliate links.
Your controls
- Edit or delete your own posts and reviews anytime.
- Leave clubs anytime.
- Delete your account — self-serve, from your account page. This permanently erases your account, posts, reviews, progress, and library. Clubs you host alone are deleted too; clubs with other members must be handed to a new host first.
Children
Pages & Lattes isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. Education accounts are intended for teachers and students at the direction of their school. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we'll remove it.
Changes & contact
If this policy changes meaningfully we'll update the date above and note it on the site. Questions or requests: hello@pagesandlattes.com.
